आपने दक्षिण अफ़्रीका की रंगभेदी सरकार के खिलाफ
लंबा अहिंसक संघर्ष किया और इसके लिए वे 27
साल तक जेल में रहे.
आपने साबित कर दिखाया कि गाँधीजी के सिद्धांत
समय और स्थान के परे हैं. आपको शांति के क्षेत्र में
अभूतपूर्व कार्य के लिए 1993 में नोबेल पुरस्कार से
सम्मानित किया गया।
